Jim Haviland Scholarship
SPONSORED BY PIONEER FEDERAL SAVINGS AND LOAN
Pioneer Federal Savings and Loan Association is extremely proud to sponsor the J.G. ‘Jim’ Haviland Scholarship, a continuing education scholarship awarded annually to a worthy Powell County High School graduate.
Jim Haviland, a well respected community member, believed that a man’s word was his bond. Consequently, under his leadership, Pioneer Federal prospered and was recognized nationally as well as locally. Involved in diverse community organizations and projects, Jim made education and the youth of the community a priority in his efforts at community betterment. Having been employed for over 40 years at Pioneer Federal Savings and Loan Association, Jim retired in the mid 1980’s. After his death in 2002, this scholarship was established in his honor with the hope that the young adults of today will embrace the virtues Jim so strongly exhibited.
To be eligible for the Jim Haviland/Pioneer Federal Memorial Scholarship, a student must be in good standing, involved in his/her local community, and committed to attending an institution of higher education beginning in the fall of 2021. This is a $1,500.00 scholarship to be paid to the educational institution.
